Aircraft Seat Upholstery Specialist
A Commercial Aircraft Seat Specialist with stitching expertise plays a key role in the refurbishment, repair, and customization of passenger aircraft seating for both wide-body and narrow-body aircraft. This role typically resides within an MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) organization and requires advanced skills in stitching, trimming, upholstery, and materials handling to ensure airworthiness and passenger comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, repair, and refurbish aircraft seats and seat components for narrow- and wide-body commercial aircraft (e.g., A320, B737, A350, B777).
- Perform detailed stitching, sewing, and upholstery of seat covers using leather, fabric, and synthetic materials.
- Ensure compliance with FAA/EASA regulations and OEM specifications.
- Read and interpret seat drawings, repair manuals, and technical documentation.
- Replace foam cushions, seat covers, armrests, and tray tables.
- Work with materials such as Kevlar, Nomex, fire-retardant fabrics, and leather.
- Use industrial sewing machines and hand tools.
- Collaborate with engineers and inspectors during seat retrofits and modifications.
- Maintain clean documentation of work orders, inspections, and repairs.
Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in aircraft seat maintenance and repair.
- Proven expertise in industrial sewing, stitching techniques, and upholstery work.
- Familiarity with Airbus and Boeing seat configurations.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and MRO technical documentation.
- Experience in Part 145 environment preferred.
- Knowledge of EASA/FAA regulations relevant to interiors.
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Work Environment:
- MRO facilities or hangars.
- May require shift work and weekend hours.
- Exposure to aircraft cabin environments, solvents, and machinery.
