Mechanical Design Engineer - Stress

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer - Stress to join our client's team.

 Our client specialises in maintenance, completion, and refurbishment of both narrow and wide-body VIP aircraft, and offers cutting-edge solutions for corporate and private jet clients.

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting static and dynamic analyses, as well as fatigue and damage tolerance assessments, for cabin completion and modification projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform static, dynamic, fatigue, and damage tolerance analyses for various cabin modifications and completions.
  • Collaborate with the Team Leader of Mechanical Design Engineering to develop effective working methods and streamline workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with Certification Basis, Rules and Regulations, Means of Compliance, and relevant interpretations.

Core Tasks:

  • Conduct static, dynamic, and fatigue calculations for installations, such as interior monuments, antennae, and additional water tanks, utilizing methods like Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and hand calculations.
  • Review and approve drawings and designs with a focus on stress considerations.
  • Develop repair and modification strategies in relation to stress analysis.
  • Consult with mechanical design engineers to devise lightweight and cost-effective structural solutions.
  • Produce technical documentation, including reports, analyses, and assessments relevant to safety and certification.
  • Establish Finite Element Method (FEM) models and Structural Substantiation Reports.
  • Oversee material testing and procurement as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of fundamental physics, technical mechanics, thermodynamics, aerospace technology, and materials.
  • A minimum of 5 years of structural substantiation experience.
  • Proactive attitude with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in French or German is a plus.
  • Proficient in Finite Element Method software (e.g., Femap) and experienced with CAD software (AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks).
  • Strong skills in MS Office; VBA programming knowledge is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Aerospace engineering background preferred; automotive or transportation experience is also acceptable.
