Job Description

Overview

On behalf of our client, a leading aerospace component repair and engineering facility, we are seeking an experienced CNC Team Leader to oversee precision machining operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive aerospace industry experience, a strong background in CNC machining, and proven expertise in training and mentoring junior staff. This role is critical to ensuring high-quality production of aircraft components while maintaining compliance with stringent aviation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Supervision: Lead a team of CNC technicians and machinists, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and fostering a collaborative, safety-focused work environment.

  • CNC Operations: Oversee the setup, programming, and operation of CNC lathes, mills, and NC jig grinders to produce or repair precision aircraft components, such as valves, air cycle machine parts, and fuel pump housings, meeting tight tolerances.

  • Training and Mentorship: Develop and deliver training programs for junior CNC technicians, providing hands-on guidance in CNC programming, machine operation, and aerospace repair processes to build team competency.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all machined components meet FAA, EASA, and other aviation regulatory standards through rigorous inspection using precision tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMMs) and adherence to Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs).

  • Process Optimization: Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and implement custom repair solutions, including proprietary mechanical piece-part repairs, to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee routine maintenance and troubleshooting of CNC equipment to minimize downtime and ensure operational reliability.

  • Compliance and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machining processes, repairs, and inspections to comply with aviation authority requirements and internal quality systems.

  • Safety Leadership: Enforce strict safety protocols and ensure team adherence to aerospace industry regulations and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of CNC machining experience in the aerospace industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership role.

  • Aerospace Expertise: Proven knowledge of aerospace component repair processes, including familiarity with FAA and EASA standards and Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs).

  • Training Skills: Demonstrated experience in training and mentoring junior staff, with the ability to develop effective training programs for CNC operations and aerospace-specific techniques.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CNC programming (e.g., CAD/CAM software or manual coding), blueprint reading, and precision machining of aerospace materials (e.g., aluminum, titanium).

  • Leadership Abilities: Strong leadership and communication skills to manage a team, resolve conflicts, and drive performance in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot CNC machine issues, optimize processes, and implement innovative repair solutions.

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.

  • Certifications: Familiarity with FAA-approved repair processes or other aviation certifications is a plus.
